About Nukta Kamusi

Our Story

Hey there! For Karim, Mariam, and Malik, this all started with something personal: we wanted to learn Kichagga so we could speak with our mother in her own language.

We searched for a reliable resource online, but nothing felt quite right. So in 2026 we talked to Nukta about working together — and set out to build something ourselves.

We began with Kisukuma, in partnership with Pawa AI, combining community-built dictionary data with speech and translation tools for a language spoken by millions but still underrepresented online. We're still trying, still learning, and still growing — and we'd love for you to be part of it.

Our Goals

Nukta Kamusi is young — our journey started this year — but the aim is clear:

• Cover Tanzanian languages: Build dictionaries, corpora, and tools for the full diversity of languages spoken across the country
• Create job opportunities: Open paid translation and language work for native speakers through our translator jobs platform
• Preserve languages: Document vocabulary, phrases, and cultural knowledge before they are lost to time
• Be a trusted source: Offer reliable translations and language data that families, learners, and businesses can depend on for generations to come

What's in a Name?

Nukta Kamusi pairs nukta — a point, a dot, the smallest meaningful mark — with kamusi, the Swahili term for dictionary. Together they reflect our belief that every entry, every phrase, and every voice recording matters: small contributions add up to something lasting for Tanzanian languages.

Why Language Preservation Matters
